Get the Life You Want: McKenna on Values and Goals (Part 3 – Day 2)

…Sunday morning and 1300 people (well perhaps 1150 – can you blame them to heading to the nearest park when it was forecast to be sunny and 26 degrees plus again?!) are back in The Great Hall at Wembley…

…the disco music continued to pump, then the volume increased…

…the vibrant, enthusiastic messiah (a.k.a. Paul McKenna) strode once again down the centre aisle of the hall, arms outstretched…

…who’s feeling great this morning?  hands up…  …who’s had successes since they were here yesterday? hands up…   …who’s had someone tell them – you just seem different somehow?  hands up

…you get MORE of what you FOCUS on in life – energy flows where attention goes…

…why care about the “why” you think as you do or feel a certain way about something – care instead about how you can change that thinking and behaviour…

…remember those positive resourceful states from yesterday…

…change background stress to background happiness…

…VALUES – what’s important to you in your life, your career, your relationships, your spirituality, your family or your health and fitness?…

…what do you value? remember times when you experienced those values…

…live your values…

…change your values if you they don’t work for you (yes, it can be done)…

…do you align your goals to your values or your values to your goals?…

…is it the chicken and then the egg or the egg and then the chicken?…

…after all it’s your values that create your motivation and determine ALL your behaviour…

…values are what you seek and expend resources for and what you move towards or away from…

…your values should DRIVE your goals to make them authentic to YOU…

…what are your GOALS?…

…make them BIG, ludicrous, outrageous, SPECIFIC and describe what you’ll see, hear and feel when you achieve them…

…tell your goals to a lamp-post each day and you’re more likely to achieve them…

…what needs to happen for you to achieve your goals?  do you need to be promoted, move house, change jobs or…

…what might get in the way to stop you achieving your goal?…

…what’s the solution?…

…create the solution by floating out into the future to a time when you’ve achieved your goal and looking back on your success…

…step back towards now, 3 months at a time, and see, feel and hear where you are, what you’re doing and what’s happening at that time that needs to occur for you to reach your goal…

…or think of a role model, a person that’s well know or that you know, whose advice would be useful – stand up and literally step into their shoes, stand how they would stand, think as they would think and see the world and the challenge through their eyes – how would they deal with it?…

…so what do my husband and I value?…

…spending time together, out in the summer sunshine, with our family…

…we enjoyed the inspiring, enthusiastic messiah, but did we stay to listen to more below the belt jokes from the magicians assistant after lunch?  heck no…

..we grabbed our goodie bags and blew out of Wembley as fast as our hire car would take us…
